Written correspondence from counsel to the court.
Judge Conner prefers written correspondence in lieu of formal motion practice on all discovery disputes. Correspondence related to discovery disputes should be filed to the docket in the subject case and not faxed, mailed, or emailed. Judge Conner prefers no other written correspondence unless directed by the court, in which case, counsel may correspond with him, provided that all other counsel are copied. Counsel are discouraged from copying the court on correspondence between one another.
Communication between counsel and the Judge’s law clerks.
Judge Conner permits limited telephone and e-mail communications between counsel and his clerks on an as-needed basis. These communications are restricted to nonsubstantive, procedural issues or case emergencies.
Preference for the use of telephone conferences rather than in-person conferences for any category of conferences that you schedule in connection with a case.
With the exception of pretrial conferences and settlement conferences, Judge Conner prefers that conferences be conducted by telephone.
Courtesy copies of motions, briefs, and other writings for chambers.
Judge Conner discourages the submission of courtesy copies unless the filing is voluminous. Counsel should contact chambers if is unsure whether a courtesy copy is appropriate.
