If there is a lapse
in appropriations beyond April 8, 2011, the U.S.
Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania will continue
to operate for 10 business days using funds derived from
fees and other non-appropriated funds. If the federal
government shuts down beyond 10 business days, the funding
from these sources will be exhausted. The Court will
continue to perform the duties essential to accord criminal
defendants their Constitutional rights and to continue to
resolve their cases. The Court will continue to process
civil cases within the significant constraints imposed by an
absence of appropriated funds. However, the Court will limit
its operations only to necessary functions. Essential court
employees, criminal defense lawyers, and jurors will be
asked to serve with payment deferred.
All currently imposed deadlines will remain in effect
unless otherwise ordered.
