Please join the M.D.Pa. Chapter of the Federal Bar Association for a Lunch & Learn CLE program, From Handcuffs to a Handshake: Successful Mediation of Inmate Civil Rights Litigation in Federal Court. The program, which will provide 1.0 hour of CLE credit, will highlight the Middle District of Pennsylvania's Prisoner Litigation Settlement Program, launched in October 2015, in which select pro se inmate civil rights cases are referred to mediators and judicial settlement officers. U.S. Magistrate Judge Karoline Mehalchick, Joe Barrett, Alternative Dispute Resolution Coordinator, and Erin Conner, Pro Se Law Clerk, will report on critical developments in the program's encouraging outcomes, and share useful lessons learned about how prison litigation can be more successfully managed through systematic consideration, appointment of pro bono counsel, and the intervention of a neutral in appropriate cases. The program will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 27th, at the William J. Nealon Federal Building and United States Courthouse in Scranton. A light lunch will be served during the CLE. Additional information, including registration, is attached here. Looking forward to seeing you there.
