Important
Notice to Attorneys RE: Entry
of Appearance and Withdrawal of Appearance in Cases in ECF.
Q: How do I
electronically file an Entry of Attorney Appearance document in a
civil case in
ECF?
A: The
attorney entering an appearance must be logged into ECF with their own login
and password. Then:
1.
Select the event "Attorney Appearance - Entry of Attorney
Appearance" under the "Other Documents" or
"Notices" category.
2. Enter
the case number and attach the PDF document.
3. Select
the party you are entering your appearance on behalf of. If the party has
more than one role, hold down your CTRL key and select all party roles. If
you will be representing all defendants or all plaintiffs, you may click on
the radio button to the right of the filer screen.
4. On the
next screen, you will see a message "The following attorney/party
associations do not exist for this case. To create an association click on
the box." Click on the box to the left of the party to enter your
appearance for that party. Note: If you do not receive this message,
you are already the attorney of record for the party you selected and you do
not need to do anything but complete the transaction so the PDF document is
filed.
Q: A PDF I'm viewing is larger/smaller than 8.5 x 11 inches and will not
print properly. How do I get it to fit on a standard page?
A: On
the Print Dialog, make sure you click the check box(es) labeled Shrink
Large Pages to fit or Scale to fit Paper [depending on
which problem you're having] before you click Print.
There is a known issue with the ECF 'Free Look' for user accounts with

90% or more of the problems most filing users experience with ECF can be

the habit of clearing your cache regularly [once a day or more] if you use
ECF a lot.

Q:
How do I install Adobe Acrobat to make sure I have everything installed that
I need for ECF?
A: Download our quick and easy installation guide here.
Q:
Once I've converted a document to PDF, how do I tell which file I want to
submit through ECF?
A: There are two ways:
1. By the filename and icon. PDF files have a
distinct icon, which you can see here,
as
compared to Microsoft Word
icons, or Corel WordPerfect.
2. By the filename and extension. The PDF document
should end with the extension .pdf, for
example:
smith_motion2extend.pdf.
Q:
Windows doesn't show file extensions on my computer. Can I change that?
A: Yes, easily. Click here for
instructions.
